Days +1 to +3

A brief update.

The past few days following the transplant have been very uneventful - thankfully. I’ve experienced no infection, no fever, no vomiting, no ulceration, no hair loss, and so far, I feel in pretty good spirits. This ‘golden’ period has presented no greater challenge than one of patience while I’m cooped up inside the boundaries of the ward. And being an avid fisherman in my normal life, patience is one thing that I’m more than familiar with.

However, as my immune system is slowly fading away to zero, the more classical side effects of chemotherapy (hair loss, mouth ulcers, etc) will become evident. In addition, I will almost certainly have an infection or two of some sort (and associated fever). It will be tough and I will feel pretty awful at times, yet I’m in no safer place to be able to overcome these hurdles.

Small steps forward.
